What is this book called?

I read this book a few years ago and I don't remember what it's called. There are these children and one of them is a girl but she shortened her name to a boys name(I think it's Roberta and she shortened it to bobbi) and at one point they steal some coal and at another point they use their petticoats and stop a train from crashing.
