How do I handle this situation with my brother?

My older brother (we are in our 50's) has been staying with me on my sofa for 6 months now. He doesn't seem to manage money well, spends it as soon as he gets it and seems to always be complaining about his aches and pains. He was suppose to stay only 2 months, but he was walking around like he was so ill with a cold, etc., that the stay lingered on. Now it's 6 months and he has kept my apartment smelling like an "old folks" home with medicated ointment that he rubs on his shoulder, because he says his shoulder hurts all the time and he can hardly lift anything. He has been putting this strong medicated rub on everyday for about a month now. It's all I smell all the time when I wake up, when I come home from work, when I go to sleep. He doesn't work. He does give me half the rent, from SSI that he receives, but nothing on utilities and he eats up everything. I know he has no where else to go. I love my brother, but I am truly needing some space here. I only have a one bedroom and he has been sleeping on my sofa. I feel so overwhelmed at times.
